The basic definition of a trendsetter is an individual who either defines or create their own version of ” individuality “. Not afraid to express their fashion ideas and concepts. Trendsetter works with the most obvious expression of style – clothes, but uses it merely as a tool for exploration and concept transmitter, since style is something that comes from within, deriving from awareness. It’s the belief of Trendsetter that by finding, and believing in your own personal style you grow as a person and live a happier, richer life.
A trendsetter typically wears gaudy or mismatched clothing, broadcasts their support for social causes, listens to music that is not typically played on the radio but is still popular in its own “underground” sort of way, may use tattoos and piercings as self-representation, is or pretends to be environmentally conscious, and tries to put off a disorganized or intellectual appearance. A trendsetter is not limited to any specific labels, rock stars, vegans, activists or nerds.
The uniting characteristic of trendsetter is that they do whatever is trendy outside of mainstream culture (designer clothing) and they want to make sure everyone knows about it, because they exploit hobbies, causes, literature and music that trend-less enjoy in an effort to seem cultured and sophisticated. The goal of the trendsetter is simply to assert their own style among others in a way that feeds their vanity…
Follower
A follower is basically any person that over exceedingly dresses in the most current trends… a person who follow the trends set by others. Someone who walks the streets of New York’s SOHO or LA with his pumas or chuck tailors…lounging in the latest vintage remake from some expensive boutique… or even true vintage sometimes which is at least a bit more authentic. They can also be described as “trendy” someone who really can’t think of his or her own style so they buy what’s on the window mannequin at H&M…. since that’s what everyone else is wearing… it must be safe… it’s easy to be a soldier in the big city! That’s a major follower… black sunglasses, dirty trucker hat, ripped tight jeans… vintage T… screen printed messenger bag… shaggy hair… and a “too cool for school” grin on his face…
A person whose behavior and thinking is fad-friendly, who does not evaluate and look for deeper meaning or give much thought to long-term tendencies. Impulsively follows the crowd or other trends down the path of least emotional resistance, and often form superficial friendships with others that dress the same (and supposedly listen to the same music). They’re really not very original beings.
Don’t be such a trendy – think about the issues, don’t just follow friends (society, culture, advertising, false revolutions, propaganda) mindlessly. Adopting a social cause because it’s hip to do so. These people are usually identified by having the personality flaw of being far too gullible and being unable to think for themselves. They are driven in by modern propaganda and peer pressure.
