In line with this trend, Gucci created a sustainability design contest, mounted in conjunction with the Institut Français de la Mode(IFM). The luxury house recently announced that Laura Popoviciu was the winner of this contest with a handbag model characterized by an origami-like design with recycled cotton, bamboo linen lining and bamboo handles. The corners fasten together with snaps, requiring minimal cutting and construction time. The young designers from IFM were asked to take inspiration from Gucci’s famous Bamboo bag applying the principle of minimum environmental impact in their creations and also the values of innovation, appeal, and authenticity that have characterised the history of Gucci‘s success over the years.
Ever Bamboo
Gucci also unveiled the publication “Ever Bamboo“, the second edition of the occasional newspaper by Ever Manifesto . The sustainability contest was conceived by Ever Manifesto with the aim of supporting and promoting initiatives inspired by “green vision” within the fashion, design and architecture industries. The “Ever Manifesto Bamboo Bag“ has now been produced by Gucci as a limited edition series available in Gucci boutiques in New York, Paris, Rome, London and Tokyo as well as on gucci.com.
Taking inspiration from the bamboo theme, Ever Manifesto invited Stefano Tonchi, Editor in Chief of W Magazine, to guest edit a special edition of the occasional newspaper entitled, “Ever Bamboo.” Entirely sponsored by Gucci and printed on recycled paper with a bamboo paper cover, the 50 page publication explores stories of people who have supported the use of bamboo through fashion, culture, architecture, design, gardens, art, and food.
Bianchi by Gucci bicycles
The collection Bianchi by Gucci bicycles can also be perceived as another move of the Italian luxury house towards ecology. This new collaboration joins two uniquely Italian traditions of design and craftsmanship, from leaders in their respective industries.
